allspice
noun
    1. An aromatic spice prepared from the dried unripe berries of a small tropical evergreen tree, used to flavour foods, especially meat.
    2. The pimento tree, cultivated mainly in Jamaica, that yields this spice. Also called Jamaican pepper.
Etymology: 17c: from all + spice and so called because the flavour is supposed to combine that of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
