      Belonging to the period of a child's development that involves an increased focus on the anus and excretion and which, in Freudian theory, is believed to follow the oral stage and to precede the phallic and genital stages;
    2b. psychoanal.
      Showing a predilection towards being preoccupied with such things as getting one's own way, tidiness, cleanliness, money, etc which, in Freudian theory, is thought to have its roots in a fixation at the anal stage in childhood.
