    1. A measuring device, consisting of two hinged prongs attached to a scale, which is used to measure the linear distance between the prongs, eg in order to determine the diameters of pipes.
    2. A splint for supporting an injured or paralysed leg by keeping it rigid and taking most of the weight of the body.
