      A spiral-shaped bacterium that occurs in the reproductive and digestive tracts of humans and animals, causing diarrhoea and gastritis in humans, and genital diseases in cattle and sheep.
Etymology: 20c: from Greek kampylos bent + bacterion a little rod (from its shape).
