    1. A breed of sheep, native to central Asia, which has coarse black, brown or grey wool.
      Form: Karakul (often)
    2. The soft curly fleece of a lamb of this breed, used to make fur coats, etc.
    3. Any cloth that resembles such a fleece. Also called Persian lamb.
Etymology: 19c: named after Kara Kul, a lake in central Asia, in the area where the sheep were originally bred.
