celandine
noun
    1. A low-growing perennial plant, native to Europe and W Asia, which has heart-shaped dark-green leaves, and flowers with glossy golden-yellow petals that gradually fade to white.
Etymology: 13c: from Latin chelidonia, from Greek chelidon swallow, as the flowering of the plant was supposed to coincide with the arrival of the swallows in spring.
