    1. A device consisting of an arm connected to and projecting at right angles from the shaft of an engine or motor, used to communicate motion to or from the shaft, or to convert reciprocating motion into rotary motion or vice versa.
    2. A handle bent at right angles and incorporating such a device, used to start an engine or motor by hand. Also called starting handle.
