    1. On the screen of a visual display unit: any of various types of special symbol or character, usually an underline character or a rectangular box, that flashes on and off and serves to indicate where the next character to be entered on the keyboard will appear.
    2. The transparent movable part of a measuring device, especially a slide rule, which can be set at any point along the graduated scale.
Etymology: 16c in sense 2; 13c in obsolete sense ‘runner': from Latin cursor runner, from currere to run.
