    1. biol.
      To change the structure of (a protein, eg an enzyme) by exposing it to high temperatures, certain chemicals or extremes of acidity and alkalinity, usually resulting in a decrease in its solubility and the loss of its biological effects.
    2. physics.
      To add another isotope to (a material capable of nuclear fission), so that it is no longer suitable for use in a nuclear weapon.
    3. To add a poisonous or unpalatable substance to (alcohol), so that it is unfit for human consumption.
