- 1. A drug created to destroy a particular bacterium, etc.
2. Any of various synthetic drugs, often narcotics, which are not controlled by law in the USA, so called because they are specifically designed by chemists to be slightly different structurally from drugs that are controlled by law (ie illegal drugs), yet chemically so similar to them that they have similar biological effects and so can be sold on the streets to drug users.
