    1. A sloping or flat table, often with drawers, for sitting at while writing, reading, etc.
    2. A place or counter in a public building where a service is provided.
    3. A section of a newspaper, etc office with responsibility for a particular subject.
      Example: news desk
    4a. music.
      A music stand;
    4b. music.
      In an orchestra, especially in the string section: a seating position determined by rank.
