    1. medicine.
      A minor gynaecological operation, usually performed to remove small tumours or to obtain specimens of tissue in order to diagnose various disorders, when the cervix (sense 1) is dilated and a curette is passed through the dilated cervix into the uterus, the lining of which is gently scraped.
