    1. biol.
      Any substance released from an organ or cell of a plant or animal to the exterior through a gland, pore, or membrane, eg resin and sweat.
    2. pathol.
      The fluid containing proteins and white blood cells that is discharged through small pores in membranes, usually as a result of inflammation.
