    1. Someone in charge of a department or group of workers, who usually also has a role as worker as well as carrying out a supervisory role.

    2. law.
      The principal juror who presides over the deliberations of the jury and communicates their verdict to the court; the chairperson or spokesperson of a jury.
Etymology: 15c as foreman; forewoman and foreperson have been used since the 1970s.
