    1. Said of two different items: exactly similar in every respect.
      Example: Her coat was identical to mine
      Thesaurus: alike, synonymous, equivalent, indistinguishable, same, corresponding, equal, interchangeable, like; Antonym: different.
    2. Said of the same item on two or more different occasions: the very same.
      Example: It wasn't just any copy, it was the identical copy I'd given her
      Thesaurus: duplicate, matching, twin.
    3. Said of twins: developed from a single fertilized egg which subsequently divided into equal halves to give two separate fetuses, the twins being always of the same sex and closely resembling each other both physically and mentally. Technical equivalent monozygotic. Compare fraternal (sense 2).
