    1. physiol.
      Any of a group of peptides, found in blood, that are associated with inflammation (eg as a result of insect stings), and cause contraction of smooth muscles, dilation of blood vessels, and an increase in the permeability of capillaries.
    2. bot.
      Any of a group of plant growth substances that stimulate cell division. Also called cytokinin.
Etymology: 1950s: from Greek kinesis movement.
