    1. A large member of the cat family, native to Africa and Asia, which has tawny yellow fur covered with small black spots, and whitish underparts. Sometimes called the panther.
    2. The male of this animal.

Etymology: 13c: Greek leon lion + pardos panther, because the animal was once thought to have been the result of these two interbreeding.
