    1a. To load (cargo, etc) on to a ship;
    1b. Said of a ship: to take cargo, etc on board.
    2. To put a burden, especially one of guilt, on someone.
    3. To scoop out (water) using a ladle, etc.
Etymology: Anglo-Saxon hladen to load or to draw up.

    1. Said of a ship: loaded with cargo.
    2. Said of a person, an animal, the sky, a vehicle, etc: heavily loaded, weighed down, burdened.
      Example: trees laden with fruit

    3. Said of a person: oppressed, especially with guilt, worry, etc.
