      Any of a series of imaginary circles drawn around the Earth parallel to the equator, representing the angular distance north or south of the equator, measured from 0 degrees at the equator to 90 degrees at the north and south poles. See also line of latitude. Compare longitude.

      A region or area thought of in terms of its distance from the equator or its climate.
