liverwort
noun
    1. Any of a class of small spore-bearing plants without a vascular system, closely related to mosses, typically growing in moist shady conditions.
Etymology: Anglo-Saxon liferwyrt, so called because the lobed leaves resemble the lobes of a liver and also because the plant was once used to treat complaints of the liver.
