    1a. colloq
      A guess, attempt, etc which is unlikely to be successful;
    1b. colloq
      A bet made in the knowledge that there is only a slim chance of winning;
    1c. colloq
      A participant in a competition, etc generally thought to have little chance of winning.
      Example: The horse was a real long shot
    2. cinematog.
      A camera shot that makes viewers feel they are at a considerable distance from the scene. Opposite of close-up.
