Mercator's map projection
Mercator projection
noun
- 1. map-making.geog.
- A representation of the surface of the globe in which the meridians are parallel straight lines, and the parallels of latitude are straight lines at right angles to these. This gives a true representation of shape but not of area, and makes the regions towards the poles exaggerated in size. Compare Peters' projection.
