    1. An annual Jewish festival held 15‐22 Nisan (in March or April), commemorating the deliverance of the Israelites from bondage in Egypt. See also Pesach.
Etymology: 16c: so called because the angel of death passed over the houses of the Israelites when he killed the firstborn of the Egyptians (Exodus 13).
