    1a. astron.
      A celestial body, in orbit around the Sun or another star, which has too small a mass to become a star itself, and shines by reflecting light from the star around which it revolves;
    1b. astron.
      One of nine such bodies, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, that revolve around the Sun in the solar system. Also called major planet.
    1c. astron.
      A satellite of a planet. Also called secondary planet.
    2. astrol.
      The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto, thought to influence signs of the zodiac and used in the interpretation of horoscopes.
