remainder
noun
    1. What is left after others, or other parts, have gone, been used up, taken away, etc; the rest.
      Thesaurus: rest, surplus, balance, residue, excess, dregs, vestiges, leavings, residuum.
    2. math.
      The amount left over when one number cannot be divided exactly by another number.
      Example: 7 divided by 2 gives 3 with a remainder of 1
    3. math.
      The amount left when one number is subtracted from another; the difference.
      Example: 8 minus 5 leaves 3 as a remainder
    4. A copy or copies of a book sold at a reduced price when sales of that book have fallen off.
    5. law.
      An interest in an estate which comes into effect only if another interest established at the same time comes to an end.
