    1. Any of several baleen whales that have a longitudinally furrowed throat (allowing for expansion when feeding) and a small dorsal fin near the tail, especially the common rorqual or fin whale, and the lesser rorqual or minke whale.
Etymology: 19c: French, from Norwegian from Norse reytharhvelr, from rauthr red + hvalr whale.
