sarcophagus
noun
    sarcophagi, sarcophaguses
    1. A stone coffin or tomb, especially one decorated with carvings.
Etymology: 17c: from Greek sarkophagos flesh-eating, from sarx flesh + phagein to eat, because the limestone which was used to make the coffins was believed to consume the flesh of the bodies.
