A UK political party formed in 1981 by four ex-Labour party members who then formed an electoral pact with the Liberals, and failing to break the two-party ‘mould' of British politics merged with the Liberal Party in 1988, becoming the Social and Liberal Democrat Party, later the Liberal Democrats.
