      A yellowish-brown to brownish-black mineral form of zinc sulphide, usually with a resinous lustre, that is the principal ore of zinc and also a source of cadmium. Also called zinc blende.
Etymology: 19c: from Greek sphaleros deceptive, so called because of its resemblance to galena.
