    1. The act of suspending or the state of being suspended.
      Thesaurus: delay, pause, interruption, intermission, respite, remission, stay, abeyance, dormancy; Antonym: resumption.
    2. A temporary exclusion from an official position, work, school, college, etc, especially while allegations of misconduct are being investigated.
    3. A temporary cessation.
      Example: suspension of hostilities
    4. A system of springs and shock absorbers that connects the axles of a vehicle to the chassis and absorbs some of the unwanted vibrations transmitted from the road surface.
    5. A liquid or gas that contains small insoluble solid particles which are more or less evenly dispersed throughout it.
