    1. A cup, medal, plate, etc awarded as a prize for victory or success in some contest, especially in sport.
      Thesaurus: award, prize, cup.
    2. Something which is kept in memory of a victory or success, eg in hunting.
      Thesaurus: laurels, booty, spoils.
    3. A memorial of victory, especially in ancient Greece or Rome, originally captured weapons, armour and other spoils, set up on or near the field of victory.
    4. A representation of such a memorial, eg on a medal or monument.
Etymology: 16c: from Greek tropaion, from trope a turning, defeat, from trepein to turn.
