      A type of minor sea-god usually depicted with the upper body of a man and the lower body of a fish or dolphin and carrying a trident and a conch.
    2. Any of several large marine gastropods that have conch-like shells.
Etymology: 16c: originally the name of the Greek sea-god, the son of Amphitrite and Poseidon.
