    1. physics.
      An electric circuit, consisting of four resistors connected in a loop, for measuring the resistance of one resistor of unknown value by comparing it with three other resistors of known values.
Etymology: 19c: popularized by Sir Charles Wheatstone (1802‐75), a British physicist.
