word association Definition

1. psychol.
A technique that involves the presentation of a word to a patient or subject, who then has to respond immediately with the first word that comes to mind on hearing the stimulus word. This technique is meant to draw out features of the subconscious.
2. A game utilizing a similar process, involving a group of people where one starts off by presenting a word, and the next person says the first word that they associate with that word, and so on throughout the group.
